*no spoilers*
Many might disagree with me that WestWorld had the potential of telling a much more compelling plot, given its uniquely creative setting.
Yet, that doesn't contest the fact that Dr. Ford is one of my all time favorite characters on TV. Everything about the character is fascinating: the age; the style; the neat impersonation of God; and most importantly, the enlightening remarks on the human condition and intellect.
Dr. Ford has become music!
Some quotes:
- Wasn't it Oppenheimer who said, "that any man whose mistake takes 10 years to correct, is quite a man?" Mine have taken 35.
- See, it took 500 years for someone to notice, something hidden in plain sight. A doctor, he noticed the shape of the human brain. The message being, that divine gift does not come from a higher power, but from our own minds. [On Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam]
- There is no threshold that makes us greater than the sum of our parts, no inflection point at which we become fully alive. We can't define consciousness because consciousness does not exist. Humans fancy that there's something special about the way we perceive the world, and yet we live in loops as tight and as closed as the hosts do, seldom questioning our choices, content, for the most part, to be told what to do next.
- We humans are alone in this world for a reason, We murdered and butchered anything that challenged our primacy.
- You can't play God without being acquainted with the Devil.
- Only boring people get bored.
- Everything in this world is magic... except to the magician.
- The piano doesn't murder the player if it doesn't like the music.
- An old friend once told me something that gave me comfort. Something he had read. He said that Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin never died, they simply became music. So I hope you will enjoy this last piece... very much.
